How It Works
Electrical power follows P = V × I: watts = volts × amps. Flip it for current: I = P ÷ V. This calculator applies both in either direction.
Calculation Explanation
Example: a toaster labeled 1,200W on a 120V outlet draws 10A (1200 ÷ 120). A 20A kitchen circuit at 120V can supply 2,400W total.
Need to size the circuit feeding that load? See the Breaker Size Calculator or check what wire gauge to run with the Wire Size Calculator.
Quick Reference: Amps → Watts
| Current | Watts @ 120V | Watts @ 240V |
|---|---|---|
| 5A | 600 W | 1,200 W |
| 10A | 1,200 W | 2,400 W |
| 15A | 1,800 W | 3,600 W |
| 20A | 2,400 W | 4,800 W |
| 30A | 3,600 W | 7,200 W |
| 50A | 6,000 W | 12,000 W |
